Artist resources

Are you interested in becoming an Artist with the Los Alamos Arts Council?

  • Anyone can apply to be an artist in our open art calls or to be a consignment artist. We do have a rubric that allows us to prioritize local and regional artists and to ensure we are offering opportunities to artists at all stages of their art career.

  • For all of our artists we have a standard commissions structure. Our organization takes 35-40% of sales, outlined in our gallery contract based on which area of our gallery you will be showing in. From time to time, we do enter into wholesale arrangements with artists, by invitation only, for a 50% commission structure.

  • All artists will need to make an appointment for their first intake and will need appointment to bring in fresh inventory if invited to the shop. Our staff will reach out when it is time to renew your inventory. If you wish to change out inventory, you can make an appointment and our staff will help you decide if the timing is appropriate.

For those selected to show in an exhibit, gallery staff will inform you of drop in dates and times to deliver your pieces and to pick up any unsold pieces after the show is concluded.

  • Affordable Arts is an annual gallery takeover event where we rearrnage the entire exhibit and sales area to hold items intended to attract holiday shoppers. Although it is called a “show”, it is more of a shop event that allows us to take in more shop artists than we normally can throughout the year. If you are currently showing works in the gallery shop, you will not need to reapply to be featured during Affordable Arts unless you are changing mediums. If you are not currently a shop artists, the process is similar to a show with application deadlines and fees, a jury to select items to enter into the “show” and a designated time to deliver works. In January, we may select some artists to remain in the shop as full time artists throughout the following year.

  • You can schedule an appointment with our staff for an exit. Please note that if you remove all of your works from the shop during the year, you will need to reapply to be shown in the shop again. We do not allow items entered into Affordable Arts to be removed before January 6th of the following year.

  • Not at this time. While we are working to create a system that allows us to take inventory through the mail, we are not able to do so at this time.

  • We need to follow a detailed procesI for each artists, even those we know well, it order to maintain an equitable system for artists to enter our shop.

At the heart of the Los Alamos Arts Council’s mission is a drive to connect the community we serve to the art and cultural experiences around them. By providing space for each person to tell their story, we strive to bring our patrons a rich connection to the world around them. By participating in our shows, craft fairs, teaching in our classrooms, or however you choose to share your story, we appreciate what our artists bring to our organization and how vital your role is in our mission.
